What is machine carpet?

Machine carpet, also known as machine weaving, is carpets woven on computer-operated electric looms. Machine-made carpets have allowed the production of a wide variety of sizes, colors and different yarns. Also, with machine weaving, the popular hand woven carpet Patterns can be produced at much more affordable prices.

Parallel to technology, the differences between handmade and machine made carpets are getting smaller with the development of production techniques. While in the past the word carpet originally described handmade carpets, it now means both handmade and machine made carpets. Generally wool or handmade carpets made from other natural fibers are the reference point of the carpet industry. However, advances in technology have made possible complex designs, machine rugs (using natural or synthetic fibers) that were once impossible for handmade rugs. Today, machine-made carpet manufacturers use machines very much. quality carpets manufactures.

How is a machine made carpet woven?

For machine carpet weaving, the warp woven from cotton or jute yarn is stretched on the loom and then woven using polyester, bamboo, polypropylene, acrylic, wool or other materials. The type of yarn used in carpets determines its appearance and performance. Natural yarns used in both handmade and machine made carpets provide softness, bright colors, long-lasting performance and other visual features. Artificial fiber is only used in machine-made carpets. Man-made fibers provide bright colours, softness, superior value and are easy to care for. Man-made fiber carpets are non-porous, machine-made carpets made of artificial fiber are resistant to staining and abrasion.

The following yarns are used in basilica in machine woven carpets:

  • Polypropylene - Known for its moisture resistance and wool-like texture. It is strong, abrasion resistant, quick-drying, colorfast, mildewproof and stain resistant. Felting happens over time. It is economical.
  • Polyamide - Flexible, can withstand heavy traffic and the weight of furniture. It is stain resistant and easy to clean. It offers an unlimited variety of bright colors.
  • Wool – is the most popular of natural fibers. It offers a natural and soft texture. When painted, it takes soft and saturated beautiful colors.
  • Polyester - Cut pile offers velvet softness and shine when woven.
  • Acrylic - Provides the wool look at a lower cost. Sometimes it is blended with other fibers. It is the most preferred carpet material in Turkey.
  • Cotton - It is a natural fiber with excellent durability and water absorbency. It attracts attention with its softness. It is available in many colors. It is frequently used in bathroom carpets.
  • Endless Filament (BCF) - Synthetic yarns processed by a mechanical method, which fluff them before tangling or weaving.
  • Bamboo- It is a natural yarn that has been popular recently. The carpets it touches have a shiny and cool texture.
  • Rayon - Usually a synthetic fiber such as viscose. Mercerized cotton can give the same feeling. Rayon, also called art yarn, is used to highlight carpets with a short, dense weave.
  • Blends - May be blends of any of the above fibers.

Modern carpet weaving machines, operated by computers, can produce carpets of various sizes and colors from a predetermined design. Once the design and colors have been determined, a computer board tells the computer what size and color machine carpet it should produce. The biggest change in machine carpets colour number has been in the area. The color palette for machine-made carpets is very wide, more than 40 shades can be obtained in one carpet model by using the cross-weaving or smart yarn technique!

Machine carpet prices depends on several factors: weaving density, yarn type and gauge. Machine-made carpets are usually cheaper than handmade carpets, and carpets made of artificial fibers are normally cheaper than natural fibers. As the frequency of weaving increases, the price of the carpet increases, as does handmade carpets.

Another difference between handmade or hand-knotted carpets and machine-made carpets is that machine-made carpets are not actually knotted. In the case of machine-made carpet, the fibers are placed in place by a machine and then fixed with a latex backing. This process also applies to carpet. non slip feature and creates a grid appearance behind the carpet.

Carpet performance is also determined by weaving density. The higher the density (more knots, fibers) means your carpet will look better. As with hand-woven carpets, creating more loops in the same area provides better carpet density and a higher quality appearance. Today, machine carpets can be woven up to 3 million / m2 density. This figure is much higher than even the thinnest woven Hereke carpets.
